To Witches, the month of September is the time of the descent of the Goddess into the
Underworld. With Her departure we see the decline of nature and the coming of winter.
This is a classic, ancient mythos, seen in the Sumerian myth of Inanna and the ancient
Greek and Roman legends of Demeter and Persephone. In September we also bid farewell to
the Harvest Lord, who was slain at Lammas (August 1). He is the Green Man, seen as the
cycle of nature in the plant kingdom. He is harvested and his seeds are planted into
the earth so that life may continue and be more abundant. Welcome to the Mabon 2000
issue of Cauldrons and Broomsticks Ezine. Our largest Mabon issue to date.
We start the issue out with the holiday section, featuring no less that 5 separate
articles. Lore, recipes, chants, and even a ritual. What a great way to start out the
issue ... with articles from StormWing, Angie from The Enchanted Grove, Mike Nichols,
and Isha ArrowHawk. Followed by a wonderful regular by one of my favorite people;
Selene Silverwind. Her ideas on promoting pagan family values are superb.
Following that, we go into a more free form section of our issue, the Story Time
section. In it you'll find 3 separate reviews; two book reviews by a regular of ours, a
very talented Susan Davis, and one review by a rookie writer called Midnight Grey
Wolfpup.
:-) I was actually able to attend an Earth based weekend called Stones
Rising at Four Quarters Farm in Artemis PA. I get invited to many different
activities here in the North East, and this one I was able to attend. Words will *not* do that
one justice, I can assure you. But I'll try to share my feelings about it. We also
have in that section our wonderful regular articles that everyone has been watching so
very closely for so very long .... Abby, Mystic Moon, Michael and Beth Chronicles,
Meagan's Mabon, My Friend The Tree, and the list goes on and on. My own big brother
DreamDancer joins us with more of his thoughts, which can be so very beautiful and
enlightening, and my very own Mrs. The Wolfpup shares one of her private and most personal
poems ..... Warm and Happy. There's even a short term paper on the Elements of Norse
Shape-shifting inside. Check that one out, for sure. And LadyRavenWitch has added
Ravens Rants once again. This section is easily one of the most enjoyable for me, as
it's the one where just about anything goes. Thoughts, ideas, poems, you name it. As
long as it's yours ... it can pretty much go in there. Your going to be amazed at the
reading available to you here.
And last but not even least, you'll be led to Dor's Herb Corner. This issue we explore
a very versatile herb used in cooking, rituals, healing and aromatherapy ..... Rosemary.
She even told me she learned so much just writing the article. :-) And we finish with a
kick butt section on a Planetary Ritual for the Seasons by Sarolta DeFaltay-Bell. Your
going to be amazed at the information she shares with us, as she goes above and beyond
her usual wonderful articles. She has a great ritual, as always .... then continues on
with Herbal Lore, incense and candle use, a question and answer session with her
subscribers, the lunar cycles made easy, and a good session explaining the astrological
houses!!!
It seems that no matter where you look in this issue, it was just meant to be a good
one. A record one. One that will be very hard for all of us to top. A history making
issue for your Mabon holiday. And I have brought us to a very important point. This
will be a very hard issue to top, for all of us. Yes, that also means each of you. As
every heading to every issue has *always* said .... "CAULDRONS AND BROOMSTICKS, A
newsletter for and by the Pagan/Wiccan Internet Community". Yes, you are the Community
the same as I am .. and all of our staff. Enjoy this issue, and enjoy the thoughts and
beauty inside. Then join us in the next issue. We've missed you .... :-)
Blessings, warmth and love ....
