Happy Imbolc!!! :-)
Imbolc, also known as Imbolg, Oimelc, and Candlemas is one of our Greater
Sabbats, and is
one of the oldest on the Wiccan calendar. "By torch and taper, bonfire
bright; we woo the Sun on Imbolc night." (Old Wiccan Song)
Hmm, what a wonderful time of the year. The time for banishing winter and
preparing for spring. And what a wonderful turn of wheel it's been too. Imbolc
is one of the "Big Four" Greater Sabbats. They are Beltane, Lughnasadh
This issue begins with StormWing giving us a Solitary ritual for the holiday,
the history behind the holiday from Mike Nichols, a wonderful word search
that we've grown to depend upon by my personal friend Isha Arrowhawk, an
interesting look at the Calendar by Memory Red Wolf)0 and a story of
Candlemas by Gina M. Page. All are filled with wonderful information that
will come in handy while learning or reviewing the upcoming holiday this February
2nd.
Selene Silverwind as usual came through with her Promoting Pagan
Family Values, and her Michael and Beth Chronicles. I love her, and I love her
work. If you have a chance, attend one of her seminars as she tours the
country. She's a very beautiful person. Someone I'm proud to call a friend for so many years.
We move on to the Cauldron section of our newsletter. Here, we welcome
back Antigone with open arms and open hearts!!! She gave us not only her
eye witness view of the Trade Center disaster; as the Yule issue was dedicated
to her, but she actually came through with her usual column. This was a
total surprise to me, as she's had so much trouble recovering from her trauma.
Cudo's to Antigone, my friend!! Her first hand story along with
Mystickally's experiences have both also been put on the tribute page.
We'll want to stop by there every so often. We have two wonderful reviews from Rain, a
wonderful series of recipes for oils and ointments from Judith Lewis, our usual
wonderful regular articles by Mystickally and Raven, and three inspired (blush)
poems from Lorelei. I think you'll love them.
Serious note here .... about a note I received. Here it is quoted:
"I've just learnt that the Dalai Lama is very ill. (A lump has been
found in his stomach, and he has complained of pain and exhaustion for
some weeks.) His monks have made an unusual request for worldwide
prayers of healing for the Dalai Lama. He is an extraordinary man, who
had done so much for our troubled planet and has touched millions of
hearts. Please hold him in your loving thoughts, or light a candle for
him today."
Let's keep our beloved Avatar in our thoughts and in our rituals. May we all bring him
healing and continued health.
Now, without anything else from this side of the keyboard, here is your Imbolic 2002 Issue.
I hope you enjoy it as much as we've enjoyed bringing it to you.
Blessings, warmth and love ....
